Growing up I loved Superman and Punisher. This poster hung in my closet and I was obsessed with the Death of Superman. I waited and waited and made my mom buy 2 copies. One I could open and destroy and the other that was to forever remain sealed.
Now I think my favorite is Batman. The villains sold me on that… I pretty much love any character associated with Batman. Besides, he’s just a G.
I tried to do this but you know how it always ends up. You forget one of your favorites and your shit out of luck. Oh and it’s not listed in any specific order. I could have argued with myself for hours.
P.S. This does not include Disney classics.
Gia (1998)
I became facinated with Angelina Jolie when I was maybe 15. First it was Foxfire and then Gia just confirmed her for me. (Over the years, with her increasing popularity, my obsession decreased.) This movie is brillant. So many good quotes.
”Dear book, this is another day in my life. A life is like a book. A book is like a box. A box has six sides. Inside and outside, so, how do you get to what’s inside? How do you get what’s inside, out? Once upon a time, there lived a very pretty girl, who lived in a beautiful box, and everybody loved her”
Dazed and Confused (1993)
Do I really need to explain the awesomeness of this movie?
“All I’m saying is that if I ever start referring to these as the best years of my life - remind me to kill myself”
The Women (1939)
I love old movies. Norma Shearer is my favorite Hollywood actress. Her mixed with Joan Crawford is just entertainment.
“Thanks for the tip. But when anything I wear doesn’t please Stephen, I take it off.”
Empire Records (1995)
This is where I fell in love with Ethan Embry (Mark.) It’s just another movie that makes me smile. The people, the remarks, the situations they find themselves in. Every single thing. It made me want to work at Warehouse then Backside (our towns music stores) and if you don’t own the soundtrack you should!
“Well “Sinead O’Rebellion.” Shock me shock me shock me with that deviant behavior.”
12 Angry Men (1957)
I watched this movie when I was in Junior High. It just shows the power of debate, suggestion, and persuasion. I think it’s one of the only movies that go behind the scenes of a jury, as well as human conditions. Besides the acting is brillant.
“They get drunk… oh, they’re real big drinkers, all of ‘em - you know that - and bang: someone’s lyin’ in the gutter. Oh, nobody’s blaming them for it. That’s the way they are! By nature! You know what I mean? VIOLENT!”
Batman (1989)
Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson are the shit. end of story, hands down favorite Batman movie ever.
“I now do what other people only dream. I make art until someone dies. See? I am the world’s first fully functioning homicidal artist.”
Pretty Woman (1990)
Huge Julia Roberts fan. I guess it’s cause people have always told me I looked like her. Being mixed I never understood but I guess it’s the huge smile that shows all my teeth!! Anyways I just loved this movie. I may have watched it 300 million times in my life. My favorite scene is when she is singing in the tub with her headphones on!!
“I say who, I say when, I say… ….WHO!”
What Dreams May Come (1998)
This movie is everything I think and want Heaven to be. It’s sad but perfect. About life, death, and love reunited. If you know anything about me, it’s that I love Sylvia Browne. I think one of my main reasonings for loving this movie so much, is because it is everything I have read in her books and believe.
“Thank you for every kindness. Thank you for our children. For the first time I saw them. Thank you for being someone I was always proud to be with. For your guts, for your sweetness. For how you always looked, for how I always wanted to touch you. God, you were my life. I apologize for everytime I ever failed you. Especially this one… “
Mommie Dearest (1981)
My entire life we watched this with my mom. Anytime it was on. We used to call her that when she was mean. Growing up being beaten daily had to be one of the reasons I connected with this film so well. (It wasn’t by my mom) I think it showed me life could be so much worse.
“I should’ve known you’d know where to find the boys and the booze.”
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
When I was younger my next door neighbor asked me to catsit. I had to stay at the house and spend time with the cats as well. Beside the couch on a little table sat a box that said Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Inside was the movie and script. I would go over everyday and just read the script. I don’t think I actually watched the movie till I was in my late teens. Then I fell in love with Audrey Hepburn and everything about her.
“You know what’s wrong with you, Miss Whoever-You-Are? You’re chicken, you’ve got no guts. You’re afraid to stick out your chin and say, “Okay, life’s a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that’s the only chance anybody’s got for real happiness.” You call yourself a free spirit, a wild thing, and you’re terrified somebody’s going to stick you in a cage. Well, baby, you’re already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it’s not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somaliland. It’s wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself”
